Established in 2010 and hailing from Michigan’s capital city, Ribcage is a hip-hop duo that boasts a three-piece band for their live performances. In 2015 alone, the group opened for Kuniva of D12 and shared the annual Common Ground Music Festival with Snoop Dogg, Tech N9ne, BLAT! Pack, and others while also headlining several shows themselves at all of Lansing's major music venues. Ribcage combines politically charged, aggressively delivered vocals with melodic, catchy instrumentals often inspired by g-funk and early-90s hip-hop. An active stage presence augments their brand and the band often surprises first time listeners—even close friends who may have missed the memo. Their first official mixtape, Midwest Sound, was released in 2014. The follow-up, The Revolve EP, was made available mid-2015, while their most recent offering, BOOKS!, arrived in June of 2016. They’ve made mentions in Lansing Community College’s The Lookout, the Michigan State University affiliated Lansing Star, and in August 2015 were featured in an interview with Substream Magazine. In November of the same year the group stopped by Impact 88.9FM, MSU's student radio, for an interview and live in-studio performance. Most recently, Ribcage was voted one of the top three hip-hop acts in Lansing through the Lansing City Pulse annual Top of the Town awards.
